Free Mic Scam!

 Apparently, if I accept a free mic and use it to produce a five-minute video "of something interesting", I could earn up to $2000. Do I see a few cynical eyebrows raise in reponse? I hope so. I thought I'd share this latest in obvious scams, anyway.

And so the email read:

"Hi Art & Fiction by Adele Cosgrove-Bray,

"I hope this message reaches you in high spirits. Your content popped up in our suggestions as we explored similar topics, and we've just organized a Talent Moment Program, which is why we'd love to have you involved.

"Might our involvement in acquiring an audio mic which is hand-made in California, USA make a difference for your work? As a condition, we anticipate that you will use this mic to record no less than 5 mins of something interesting. Curious to see the projects created by our past collaborators? Please visit this source:"

And here they inserted a link. As I can do without a computer virus, it'd be a cold day in Hades before I'd click on that.

"For real, if you ever need a quality microphone, we could create something good together, don't you think? 

"We accessed your email details from your Social Media Site:"

And here they inserted another link, this time to YouTube. But is it? I'll never know, as I'll never click on it.

"And here's the noteworthy aspect, if your work captivates, $500/$1000/$2000 could be heading your way!

"Warmly,"

 Here, the sender has inserted an image of a mic, obviously lifted off Amazon, along with the information that's it's recommended for singing. Trust me when I tell you that no microphone on this green earth could render my loose approximation of singing worthy of earning $2000.

"Resourcing Department: To confirm legitimacy, check:"

And here they inserted yet another link, allegedly to their company website. Below that was an poorly made image of a cat, created from solid black blocks, looking like something a child might have made, plus their TikTok URL. 

"We'd miss you like a garden misses its blooms, but if you need to leave:" 

How generous. And there was one more link, this time offering an unsubscribe option, which seems overkill seeing as how I hadn't subscribed in the first place.

Falling Trees and Blue Portraits

Birkenhead Park Visitor Centre, 7th April 2019, by Adele Cosgrove-Bray. My ongoing series of sketches in the park continues unabated, as is evident. On a few recent sketches I've added some simple washes of watercolour to bring another dimension to the scenes. I've long grown accustomed to sketching in public, and the few people who've passed any comment have always been encouraging. I've even unintentionally captured a tiny bit of park history:- I drew this lovely arching tree in February this year, and since then its own weight has pulled its roots out from the ground. Probably due to safety concerns, it has been brutally cut back so it's now little more than a stump, and the horizontal section, with all its vertical branches, has been removed.
